Povzetek: A simple geometrically non-linear 4-node finite element formulation for thin elastic shells is presented. It is based on the shell theory for thin elastic shells derived from the three-dimensional continuum theory. A mixed variational formulation is adopted. A displacement field is used for the membrane and bending parts of the variational formulation, as is the ANS (Assumed Natural Strain) approach to avoid a transverse shear locking. Large rotations based on the element level are parametrized with two Euler angles. The analytical integration through the shell element thickness or layers is employed. The adopted shell kinematics is consistently linearized leading to a numerical algorithm with a quadratic rate of asymptotic convergence. Numerical examples provided and compared with available solutions illustrate the approach [COBISS.SI-ID 74087]
