The paper investigates the applicability of 3D push-over analysis for the seismic analysis of plan asymmetric structures. As a test example a symmetric four-storey r/c frame building designed according to the European seismic code provisions (Eurocode 8) was selected. For the asymmetric building variant the asymmetry was introduced by shifting the center of masses. The non-linear dynamic analysis results obtained for three selected earthquake ground motions(two different scalings) were compared with the push-over analysis results. In all cases the push-over analyses are performed up to the maximum top displacement obtained by the nonlinear dynamic analyses (measured in center of masses). Four different points of load application for the push-over analyses are considered and the deflection profiles and the floor torsional rotations of the building are compared with the maximum response obtained by nonlinear dynamic analysis. As a reference also the nonlinear response of symmetric structure is presented
